George Lammers Obituary

George Gayle Lammers passed peacefully, but unexpectedly at the age of 69, on the morning of Tuesday December 5, 2023.

George was born on the anniversary of the Battle of Little Big Horn, June 25, 1954 in Billings, Montana to Gayle and Berdelle Lammers.  They lived in Hardin, Montana, where they owned and operated Lammers Trading Post, multi generational family business.

As a boy, George was a skilled athlete who loved the outdoors,  earning accolades in football, basketball and marksmanship.  He was a middle child to his older sister Carla and younger sister Jane.  George proudly graduated from Hardin High School, the “Class of 72”.  In high school he played center for the Hardin Bulldog football team and in the words of his best friend, John, “George hit like a freight train.”

George attended college at the University of Montana. During his junior year, while studying business administration, George was called home after receiving word that his father had fallen ill.  George immediately came home to help his ailing father and to run the family business.  After his fathers passing in 1982, George along with his mother Berdelle, enjoyed a successful partnership, growing and expanding the family business.

George married his college sweetheart in December of 1976, Tamara Hamilton of Kalispell, Montana .  They had three children, Krista, Andra and Gayle.  George enjoyed boating and fishing at the Big Horn Canyon with many friends and family, shooting, long drives on Sarpy, day trips to the Cody Museum and pack hunts with the his horse, Dinky. George continued to serve his local community, grow his family and expand Lammers Trading Post, proudly adding a new storefront addition in 1999.  He rarely missed a day of work or a coffee hour at the Merry Mixer Cafe’ with friends.

Eventually George retired, entrusting the family business to his son Gayle.  He enjoyed the freedoms of retirement with family, friends and his two dogs. George often said, “My greatest honor was caring for my mother in the twilight of her life.”

George is preceded in death by his parents Berdelle and Gayle Lammers.

He is survived by his sisters Jane (Robert) Fischer and Carla Lammers; his daughters Krista (Rob) Moran and Andra (Bill) Hietreiter, his son Gayle (Carla) Lammers; his grandchildren Vanna, Leila, Luna and namesake George and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
