Clifford Takes Horse Obituary

Clifford Takes Horse, 71, of Hardin passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023 at his home. He was born June 12, 1952 in Crow Agency, a son of Clark and Elreno (Venne) Takes Horse. He grew up in the Crow Agency area and went to school at Crow Agency, Pretty Eagle at St. Xavier, St. Labre, Pierre and Flandreau, South Dakota.  Henry Crooked Arm gave him the name Iickoubas Aawaacudaiigass (his hat sees over the ground). He was a member of the Ties the Bundle Clan and was a child of the Greasy Mouth Clan.  He was a member of the Catholic church.

Clifford married Lorna Four Dance and from this union came Clifford Jr., Clarissa Sunshine, Samantha Hugs and Sunny Robinson. They later divorced. He married Sandra Ras and they made their home in Hardin.  Together they raised Paul Wilson, Manuel Juneau and Dennis Takes Horse.

Clifford worked as a heavy equipment operator, tribal cop, and as a security guard for the hospital and also the movie, “Little Big Man.”  He participated on the vision quest wagon and enjoyed playing handgames. He also was a traditional dancer, bareback rider and a Golden Glove.

His parents, son Clifford Jr., brothers, James Old Man, Carl Venne, Albert Perkins, John, Randy and Marvin Takes Horse, William and Daniel Bad Bear, sisters, Sarah, Rosaline Vogel, Baby Loretta and Gladys Takes Horse-Jefferson, Deloris Lowry, nieces Pinky Bad Bear and Fannie Rides Horse, adopted brothers, Leland Stewart and Kari Grant and nephew Ernie Stewart preceded Clifford in death.

Survivors include his children, Clarissa, Samantha, Sunny, Paul, Manuel, Joe and Denny, grandchildren, including Victoria Wilson, Jared Wilson, Alexander Wilson, and Lyllian Mountainsheep, great-grandchildren, Virginia Macey Wilson and Ember Skye Wilson, sisters, Georgiann Bad Bear, Babe Venne, Dorothy (Brian) St. Pierre, Loretta (Mike Good Luck) Takes Horse; brothers, Billy (Gwen), Dennis (Brenda) and Franklin (Cynthia) Takes Horse, nephew Alec Iron, adopted daughter LuAnn Vogel, special friends Barbara Stewart, Carmelia Brown, and Trudy Hatten.

His extended family are the Takes Horse, Birdinground, Shane, Venne, Laforge, Williamson, Old Elk, Stewart, Whiteman, Smells, Anderson, He Does It, and Snell families. Our family is large please forgive if we have forgotten anybody in our time of grief.
