Al Takes The Horse Obituary

Al Dexter "Champ" Takes the Horse, Sr. 58 passed away on October 3rd, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, Montana. Al was born June 1, 1965 in Hardin, Montana to Marvin Takes the Horse, Sr. and Senora Williamson. He was of the Peigan Clan and a child of the Whistling Water. Al was raised in Crow Agency, Montana. He attended many schools and attended Hardin High School where he excelled in wrestling and was a heavyweight champion wrestler.  Al was also in his father’s boxing club and became a Golden Glove Champion Boxer in the North American All Indian Boxing taking title for the Crow Tribe Super Heavyweight Championship on November 19,1983. Al married the love of his life Eunice Enick on January 6, 1985 and with this union the couple had four children Al, Markus, Cdale and Delores Takes the Horse. The couple then made their home in Hardin, Montana. Al worked various jobs starting at a young age from Roads Department, Crow Tribal Security and logging in the Wolfs and Pryor Mountains until he later joined the Westmorland Coal Mine in Sarpy. He would later retire from Westmorland Coal Mine in 2022 after working for 33 years. Al enjoyed motorcycles and fast cars. He also enjoyed detailing them with the help of his best friend/brother Vernon Ball. Al truly had a passion for sports, his passion being mainly boxing and wrestling but he also enjoyed watching the Steelers, Seahawks and Chicago Bulls. Al is best known for his smile that would light up a room and his great personality. Al loved his family dearly and would always go above and beyond for any of them, he was his family’s true hero. Al will truly be missed, he was such a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend.

Al was preceded in death by his father Marvin Takes the Horse Sr., maternal grandparents Dexter & Lorraine Morrison Williamson Jr., paternal grandparents Clark & Elreno Venne Takes the Horse, grandmother Deloris Lion Shows, brother Marvin “Chico” Takes the Horse Jr., sister Gladys Takes the Horse and his stepfather Jim Tushka Sr.

He is survived by the love of his life his wife Eunice Enick Takes the Horse, sons Al, Markus (Sarah), Cdale (Alethia) Takes the Horse and Merval (Hannah) Phelan. Daughter Delores (Dakota) Bahr and daughter/sister Mary (Raven) Price. His seventeen grandchildren Kaleigha, Andre, Bella, Jade, Lillie, Sadie, Regina, William, River Lee, Eden, Autumn, Jasper, Zelda, Cassius, Briseis and Wyatt. His mother Senora Tushka, sister Lavern (Evan Pretty On Top) Takes Horse, his brothers Vernon (Jenifer) Ball and Benjamin (Emily) Big Man Jr.

Our family is large, and we have many relatives. Please accept our apology if we have failed to mention you in our time of grief.
